Timing is Everything

Timing is everything. It’s an expression we’ve all heard, used and often believe. With
the New Year’s goals and resolutions just days away, planning is on top of mind. Now is
when I frequently get asked: “when is the best time to buy?”....”when is the best time to
sell?”
Is there really a “best time”...or is it all just luck? A favorite quote from Oprah: “I
believe luck is preparation meeting opportunity. If you hadn’t been prepared when the
opportunity came along, you wouldn’t have been lucky.”
And so it is with buying or selling a home....be prepared.
If buying:
Know your finances, work up a budget, verify credit scores, get pre-qualified for a loan,
make a list of the must-haves for your new home and neighborhood. Rates are usually
their lowest from now until mid-February and there are some good bargains to be found
during the early winter months. Check out the Quick Pulse Report updated weekly on
our web site. You’ll find yourself in a lot less competition with other buyers for the next
couple of months. Now could indeed be the right time to buy.
If selling:
Get a current market evaluation of your home, find out what improvements would yield
more money, prepare a plan for where you’re moving to, start to de-clutter and donate.
There might be fewer buyers right now, but those looking are serious (big time for
relocation buyers) and there’s also less competition. The real estate spring market in
the TC starts the second week of January. The number of buyers start to increase, but
so do the number of listings! Read the Featured Testimonial from our current
newsletter to understand the power of preparedness and timing.
Now could indeed be the right time to sell.
